University curricular internships are important for various reasons and have various objectives. Here are some of the main reasons why curricular internships are considered an essential part of the university experience:

Curricular internship objectives may vary depending on the study program and university, but usually include:

  • Providing hands-on experience in the user’s field of study.
  • Helping students develop specific skills required for their future careers.
  • Integrating academic theory with practical experience.
  • Evaluating students’ skills and performance in the professional context.
  • Offering the opportunity to reflect on the experiences and the knowledge acquired during the internship.
  • Contributing to the students’ professional orientation process.
  • Encouraging collaboration between the university and companies or institutions in order to create job opportunities for graduate students.

Overall, a curricular internship is a crucial part of higher education that helps students prepare for the work world and gain a clearer vision of their professional prospects.

University of Palermo

The training and orientation internship is a period that students can spend at a “host entitiy” (companies, bodies, institutions, associations) that has an agreement with the University of Palermo. During this period, students carry out activities to complete their education, which lead to the acquisition of professional skills and promote professional orientation through direct experiences in the work world.

Internships are governed by the Ministerial Decree. 25 March 1998, n. 142 which contains rules for implementing the principles and criteria referred to in art. 18 of Law 196/1997, by circular no. 22 of 2002 of the Regional Labor Department (G.U.R.S. no. 57 of 12/13/2002) and by the General University Regulations issued with D.R. n. 2999 of 2021. Each Course of Study also satisfies Regulation requirements that define the function of the training offered by the internship, the number of university training credits (CFU) and corresponding hours, the methods of requesting the activation of the internship, and, upon verifying the completion of the internship, the evaluation and validation of it.

The training and orientation internship period offers students the opportunity to collaborate with Energia Italia. During this phase, students will have the opportunity to participate in activities which are complementary to their study path, allowing them to acquire professional skills. This direct experience in the work world not only enriches their educational background, but also helps to guide their professional choices.

The itinerary implementation begins with an ad hoc agreement between the school/training institution and the entity available to welcome the student(Energia Italia) for workplace internship. The personalized curricular internship training project is attached to the agreement signed by both parties, and is consistent with the year and the course of study attended by the student, which defines the skills resulting from it.
